Explorations in Science
Science &Engineering Fair
NGS Annual Science Fair
During our Annual Science and Engineering Fair, our students embark on a scientific journey from hypothesis to conclusion, exploring everything from crystal formations to investigations of the human psyche. Guest experts from the University of Illinois and other science engineering fields join NGS in this journey and give our students encouragement to continue to strive for life-long learning of science and engineering. Former Primary D teacher, Mr. Chris Sotelo, provided the school with a video of the 2012 experience.
7th Grade Students visit Ford Lab for Science & Engineering Fair Projects
Project to be featured on I-Stem website
As part of Next Generation School's annual Science & Engineering Fair, 7th grade students visited the Ford Lab in the Mechanical Engineering Building on the campus of the University of Illinois. The tour included an explanation of the different types of machines and materials used in making 3D printed models. The students also handled many models that had been printed for various projects.
For their part in NGS's Science & Engineering Fair, 7th graders interviewed Primary C and D classes regarding what types of playground equipment they preferred. The 7th graders then used this information to plan and design a playground for the Next Generation School field. They completed their designs, input the data into CAD, a 3D modeling software, and forwarded the designs to Ford Lab for 3D printing. Their designs will be on display February 15 from 4:30-6 p.m. for our Science & Engineering Fair open house.
