Fine & Performing Arts
The goals of the Performing Arts Program meet and significantly exceed Illinois State curricular goals. Students are expected to regularly demonstrate knowledge and understanding of musical terms and notation throughout their academic career at the school. Through active classroom participation, students become familiar with such elements of music as structure and form, intermediate and advanced levels of meter, rhythm, melody, harmony, timbre and dynamics. These elements are regularly applied to the singing of two and three-part choral compositions.
The Performing Arts program's philosophy is that education in music, drama, and dance is essential to nurturing the cognitive, physical and emotional growth of children. Through musical and movement activities, children are empowered with a sense of joy, creative independence, self-worth, openness and confidence. Music, drama, and dance are taught with the same high expectations of any language learning. All children are entitled to build and master skills in the performing arts within a nurturing and joyful atmosphere.
